Momochi Seaside Park (Seaside Momochi) is a one-kilometer long stretch artificial beach located right underneath the New Fukuoka Tower in Fukuoka City. It’s the home to some of Fukuoka’s most futuristic architecture and it’s the biggest tourist attraction in Japan. Surprisingly, even though it is called a “park”, it contains few spots of greenery and if the weather is nice, it’s the perfect place to have a stroll, a jog or to take some pictures.
When facing the sea you can catch a glimpse of a bridge leading to a western-style building, you can’t miss it as it is located at the center of the beach. The structure is called Marizon, an artificial island featuring restaurants, shops, a wedding hall, and a ferry port with connections to Uminonakamichi Seaside Park across Hakata Bay.
The beach is a popular spot for swimming and sports such as volleyball and soccer. At night, the lights of the urban night are reflected beautifully on the sea. This is also one of Fukuoka’s most popular dating spots.
Momochi Seaside Park is pretty popular and incredibly crowded for a few weeks during summer and relatively quiet for the rest of the year but I insist that you should definitely check it out.
People that often come to Fukuoka tend to focus on Tenjin and Hakata. That is understandable since these two areas are very much the heart of the city, you can basically do whatever you want. From shopping, to visiting all of Fukuoka’s most famous temples, and tasting the best food in the area.
What surprises most of the people who get to know Fukuoka is to discover that Momochi Seaside Park does exist in Fukuoka as well and over the years the park is gaining popularity as a resort area in the heart of the city.
So make sure to include this on your bucket list when visiting Fukuoka.
